CYCLONE
ULUI - 21st March 2010
Cyclone
Ului had us bunkered down in our beautiful ladies toilet block,
mattresses in the showers for some comfort. We didn't have
any guests, just our staff and our long term regulars and 2
dogs!
Our
staff include our new Assistant Managers, Bruce and Shirley,
and their son Max, from Whyalla SA, who have never seen rain
like we have experienced in the last 3 months since they arrived
let alone a cylcone. After living in the tropics for 20
years, we, the Park owners, Debbie and George, have so far
avoided any really big blows.
Most
of the crowd managed to sleep through the noise, even Milo
the dog was oblivious, but Wiggles was aware that something
was not quite right. Tiani and Max, kept themselves busy watching
videos in the shower cubicle and George prowled the park checking
for damage through the night and keeping us informed in the
toilet block with the cyclone updates.
Anyway
the news is pretty good. There is a lot of tree debris to clean
up but there was amazingly no damage to any structures. Trees
fell around our cabins.
Our
main concern for a while will be power. We hope the generator
copes. It could be quite a few days before power is restored.
But the cleanup has begun and it will be business as usual
in time for Easter.
The
pressure is on with a full park but we will be organised and
ready with all the usual fun happening for a big Easter weekend.
The
big trees will take some time to recover but all our palm trees
fared very well and by the time our winter guests arrive, the
whole park should look gorgeous again and we can get on with
doing what we do best - looking after our guests and showcasing
this beautiful region of ours.
