Fishing
Keen fishermen flock to the Proserpine River particularly
in the warmer months when the Barramundi are around. October
is a great time for Barra fishing. The weather is warmer and
for the fishermen it is their last chance to catch a Barra before
the season closes at the end of October.
In February
when the season opens, Conway Beach Tourist Park holds a
Barra Bash competition, an event aimed at families getting
out on the water and having a great time. In 2007 the event
will be held on the weekend begining Friday 9th February.
Further details can be obtained directly from park staff
by phone or email.
It's not just the Barra that the fishermen chase. King and
Blue Salmon, whiting, grunter, flathead, and bream are caught
in abundance.
Fish frames
are brought to the kiosk for freezing and given away as crab
bait so pack the crab pots. A crab cooker has been installed
at the fish cleaning area so you can cook your crabs while
washing down the boat.
Prawns
can often be caught straight off the beach.
